Verizon names new Human Resources leadership

New York, N.Y.—Marc Reed and John Bell have been named as Verizon Communications Inc., two new executives to senior Human Resources positions effective April 1, 2004.

Marc Reed, formerly Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon Wireless, has been named Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon corporate-wide, replacing Ezra Singer. Reed will report to Verizon Chairman and CEO Ivan G. Seidenberg and will be responsible for establishing overall Verizon policy and strategy related to compensation, benefits, labor policy, executive staffing, diversity, ethics, safety and the environment.

"Marc brings demonstrated leadership and strategic HR expertise to this position," says Seidenberg.

"He's done an excellent job to help support a highly competitive culture at Verizon Wireless, and he has extensive prior experience in all facets of human resources at a corporate level. I look forward to the perspective Marc will bring to this assignment," says Seidenberg.

John Bell, formerly senior vice president of Northeast network services, has been named Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Verizon's Domestic Telecom unit.  Bell will be reporting to Verizon Domestic Telecom President Larry Babbio. Bell will develop and implement human resources policies and strategies across all Telecom units to create a more competitive, innovative and results-based culture and work force.

"Throughout his long career with this company, John has exhibited leadership and integrity," said Babbio.

"John has an excellent understanding of our business, as well as a formal education in human resources, an outstanding knowledge of labor relations and negotiations and a history of being a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion," Babbio goes on to say.
